Sexual Abuse

For my teen life project, I’ll be doing sexual abuse. For this post I found my information in wikipedia.
What I learned was that sexual abuse, is that it is when a person forces another to perform sexual acts. Physical forced sexual acts are called rape. While psychological forms of abuse can be called stalking. There is sexual abuse from teachers, which is when a teacher gives unwanted sexual attention to students. Also, there is sexual abuse from members of the same family which is called incest .
I tried to make little, but detailed information so some people can understand better and I’ll have more to write about later on, sexual abuse is a very serious and very important topic. I think that what I read was very informative because there are some things I didn’t know about sexual abuse that I learned here, like that sexual abuse from members of the same family is called incest. That is one the part of sexual abuse that interests me the most, incest, it is a very serious problem. Like if you feel that you are in danger of getting raped when you are walking on the streets and then you get home where you are supposed to feel safe and protected because the only people in your house are family. WRONG! You aren’t safe anywhere, it is a cruel world where you have to be careful that you don’t let any member of you family, especially of the opposite sex, into your room and close the door with a lock, like maybe with your mother it is okay, but with more distant family like an uncle, aunt, or cousin, you should definitely be careful. If any family member starts acting you in an inappropriate way, then you shouldn’t stay quiet, you should tell another
adult, so that he or she can do something about that, like tell the police.
I have heard stories in the news about sexual harrasment from teachers like a teacher that started sending porn to students by email, and teachers that force students into performing sexual acts by threatening them with school-related things. No matter what a teacher threatens you with, you should never give in to that kind of sexual harrasment because that is never right.
Also, never think that just because you are male you are safe from sexual abuse because that is completely wrong, ther is sexual harrasment from male to male, or homosexual abuse. There is sexual abuse from women to men also.
For my next post I’m still going to do sexual abuse, but I’m going to focus on sexual abuse of minors since at it is more important to us since we are minors too. There are very auful stories about how minors get raped by I the streets or that crazy people sneek into their houses when their parents are away and rape them. Like I heard this story on the radio where a man found this girl walking on the streets and hit her head with a piece of wood so she went unconscious, then he raped her, and after that he ate her, so he was a canibal as well as a sexual abuser.

School Environment

There are some questions about school environment posted in the teen life wiki that I thought would be fun to answer.

My favorite thing about my school is thatyou are almost never bored, at recess thereare many things to do like, eat, play soccer or basketball, go to the library, or just talk to your friends. Teachers are cool, and once in a while we get fun projects that we do in class. And on holidays, stuco plans fun things.

I feel good about school I love being with my friends, and learning new things. The only times I get kind of nervous about school is when I get so much homework that my brain hurts, or when report cards are coming.

If my school were “ under construction” I don’t exactly know what I would do because it depends on wether the school is open or closed. If it is open, then I would just go and try not to distract myself too much watching the construction. But if the school were closed, then I would have to find a way to study at home or go to another school in the meantime. What would be really bad would be if my school caught fire or something very serious like that, that would be very bad because then everybody would have tolave the school for a year or two before it opened again.

When I was reading Ana Caro´s blog post on sexual abuse, I thought that I´d like to write a little about that because it is also important.

Sexual abuse is a very serious subject because there are many people who sexually abuse children, that´s why I think it is bad for children to wander the streets alone at night because they aren´t always very safe, anyone might find them on the streets and rape them, that´s why I think that children should always be accompanied by somebody at night, it is better if a group of kids walk together than if one child walks alone.

Okay, so I think that some of the questions about health and technology on the teen life wiki, made it seem like they thought we were kind of behind on technology and health, which we are, but not that much.

They asked if we had doctors here, and I say that we do, and that people who can afford to go to the doctor here are mostly very healthy, but if they find a major problem, they go to the U.S. People who can´t afford to go to the doctor, go to one of the hospitals where they can be checked for free, but the service isn´t very good in those, so they may end up with health issues without money to go to a good doctor.

And about the technology, no, we normally don´t have problems communicating through technology, we use phones, and computers to communicate just like you do. But if you wan´t to buy some things like a PS3 or other things like that, you can´t get them in Cartagena, you have to go to Bogota or the U.S.

Teen Life Wiki Response

In this post I wanted to answer some of the questins on the teen lif wiki.

First I’m going to answer the ones about the school encironment. The answer to the one about uniforms is obviously yes, and our uniforms are a sort of dark blue and white, the shirts are all the same but the girls wear skirts and the boys were something else, I don’t know exactly what to call it, long shorts, or short pants, anyway, you can also wear a school jacket with that because it gets kind of cold in the classes because of the ac. We have to wear a different uniform for P.E. , and if you don’t wear the PE uniform to PE, then you get in trouble. And I’ll also answer another question by saying, no, we don’t get a good education here, just kidding Mr. Hide, anyway the teachers are really good and I feel that I learn a lot here.

Now I’m going to answer a question about class saying, that yes, poverty is a big issue here and it can be found too easily, just go to the centro, and you’ll find it everywhere. Which really gets me sad every time I go there ,but also makes me feel thankful to God for giving me and my family what we have. In our school we help those people by collecting money to buy presents for homeless children in December, and also by collecting food to give to them, and it would be very nice if other people in Cartagena payed more attention and tried to help those people that need their help, because sadly most people just ignore them. But still, sometimes it is their fault that they don’t have any money because they don’t want to work and make their children wash car windows with dirty water one the streets.

That’s it for this post, and remember, help poor people

Racism

When I was looking at Farhad’s blogger, I realized there was one subject I hadn’t talked about in my post that is extremely important to me, and that is racism.

There are many types of racism, the one that is mostly talked about racism from white people who discriminate other people because they are black. I personally experienced some of this when I was in kindergarden at another school I sat with three girls who weren’t very nice to me because I was dark, so I didn’t have any friends. That was one year of my life that I didn’t enjoy at all, I felt lonely and sad because I didn’t have any friends, just because I was born two shades darker than everyone else. Now that I look back at that time I don’t feel angry with those girls, I feel angry with myself because I never told anybody about what was happening at that time. That’s why I think that any time someone is discriminating you because of your color, then you should do something to stop that because the less racist people there are in the world, the better.

One other thing I want to say about racism is that it isn’t only from whites to blacks, it is also from anybody, to anybody who is of a different race, Asian, Indian, Chinese, European, etc. And everybody should try to stop this. When I was looking at Farhad's blog I realized that there was one very important topic that I hadn´t covered on my post, and that was racism, which is extremely important to me.

alexa´s intro

Hello peeps! My name is Alex C. and I live in Cartagena, Colombia. In Cartagena we get many tourists since we have many historical things like the murallas and nice islands and beaches. I go to Colegio Jorge Washington which is very nice and has many sports. Here, the most popular sport is soccer, but I don't really like it, I play basketball and volleyball, but I like volleyball more. In this school, I think that school starts very early if you compare it to school in the U.S. which start at 9, but here it starts at 7. Which is very hard for me because I’m used to waking up late. But other than that, school is very nice. Except for sometimes, we get so many projects at a time that I get really confused and then procrastinate and have to do everything really fast at the end, so the projects don’t end up really good.

One of the problems many people face in Cartagena is poverty, which is a condition in which a person doesn‘t have important things needed for life. Here, if you walk around the streets you will see many poor people begging for money, I mean, you see that everywhere, but here you see much more than anywhere I’ve ever seen. It is very important for people with more money to help those people, and get them jobs. Since they don’t have any money, the children don’t get to go to school and instead they work on the streets washing car windows, the worst thing is that while everybody sees that these people need help, some people are too careless to do anything about it.

One of the important issues in the world is global warming. Which means that the Polar ice caps will start to melt because of rising temperatures and cause many problems like floods, droughts, tornadoes, extinction and even more. Most national governments have signed the Kyoto Protocol, which is aimed at fighting global warming. Global warming is a very serious issue and I think that everybody that can help fight it should do it.

Another important issue is drugs , they affect many people and make them do many bad things like crash cars, and if they stop taking it they get very mad at everybody. Mostly people take them because of peer pressure, they meet somebody who tells them that if they smoke it they would feel very good. People start doing drugs and then they can’t stop taking them because they are addicted. Drugs are bad for you.

Yet another important problem in the world is wars, which are violent fights between two groups. I think that wars are bad because many people end up dying unnecessarily. Wars aren’t always the best ways to solve conflicts either.

Bye. And remember, don’t do drugs!
